Working for Clayton Glass: an Employee Case Study with Richard Holmes

In this new Q&A-style website article series, we’ll be sitting down with real life Clayton Glass employees and finding out all about their history with the company, from the early days to where they are now, as well as exploring the aspects of the job they find rewarding. This time it’s Richard Holmes, our esteemed colleague who has a dual role as a Data Analyst and Systems Administrator at Clayton Glass.

Q: What has your journey with Clayton Glass been like?

A: “I’ve been at Clayton Glass for 15 months now. Before that I was a working in education. But I feel there have been lots of cross-over skills that have stood me in good stead.

I have a dual role as a Data Analyst and Systems Administrator at Clayton Glass. As a Data Analyst, I extract and clean data from databases, using Microsoft Power BI to create interactive and visually appealing reports to draw conclusions for informed decision-making. I also provide IT support, responding to internal tickets and ensuring everyone receives the assistance and support they need. Additionally, I help with the system side of GlassTrack, a glass order tracking software, and oversee Safety Culture, a mobile inspection app for operational insights. It’s an exciting and diverse job that involves data analysis, reporting, IT support, and software management.”

Q: What do you enjoy about working at Clayton Glass?

A: “I enjoy every aspect of my job. While the data side can be a challenge at times, I find great satisfaction in creating interactive reports and receiving positive feedback on their usefulness. I have a natural affinity for the support aspect of my role, and I take pleasure in assisting colleagues with their tickets and making a difference. Our team is fantastic, great leadership and full of knowledgeable and approachable individuals who are always ready to help. The supportive and collaborative environment makes a significant impact and allows me to tap into the wealth of knowledge within the team and the business.

Q: What would you say to someone thinking of joining Clayton Glass?

A:It’s a great opportunity, especially if they’re interested in data analytics. Coming from a teaching background, I was drawn to the analytical side of things, and Clayton Glass provided me with the chance to dive into data analysis, which I thoroughly enjoy. One of the standout aspects for me is the people. From the very beginning, I felt the strong support and welcoming atmosphere, which is crucial for a workplace. Feeling at home and supported right away are characteristics that make you want to stay in a place, and that’s what Clayton Glass offers.”
