In this new Q&A-style website article series, we’ll be sitting down with real life Clayton Glass employees and finding out all about their history with the company, from the early days to where they are now, as well as exploring the aspects of the job they find rewarding. This time it’s Danny Brown, our esteemed colleague who works in the role of Production Operative at our Scotland facility…

Q: What has your journey with Clayton Glass been like?

A: “I started at the Scotland site 2 years ago. My first role at Clayton was on the sealing robot on the DGU line. After that, I got trained up on the washer.

I’ve done factory work before, as before I came here, I was in a food factory – I left because there was no work-life balance. At Clayton I get more of a work-life balance, and I really enjoy working here. To me balance is really important, I get to spend more time with my beautiful wife and wonderful kids, and that means the world to me.

My current role at Clayton is between the washer and framing. I’m trying to be versatile and learn as much as possible! And one day, if we have a recruitment drive say, I want to be the person that people can come to when they have a question and I can pass on what I have learned.”

Danny enjoys working at Clayton Glass because of the work-life balance, among other things.

Q: What do you enjoy about working at Clayton Glass?

A: “I really like how everyone’s very approachable; someone can always answer your question. I like the work-life balance as I mentioned.

I also really like that there are targets to hit and goals to achieve. We push each other to achieve the highest possible results, and we help each other to go above and beyond.

The people at Clayton are great, it’s like a family out there on the shop floor with all the banter and camaraderie. Overall, it’s a great company, and the management are very helpful and approachable.”

Q: What would you say to someone thinking of joining Clayton Glass?

A: “I’d say to them that you’ll never stall in this job.

There are always progression opportunities which is good. The team here also always look out for each other. No question is too silly, and we will always take you under the wing to teach you everything you need to know.”

Danny believes new starters will always be taken under the wing.

Q: What does the Clayton difference mean to you?

A: “From what I have seen so far, we are very customer-focused here in Scotland. We all want to produce the best work we can, ultimately to deliver high quality units to the customer. Everyone at Clayton Glass Scotland works together to do everything it takes to make sure the job gets done at the end of the day.”
