A better way of
doing business

There are many glass manufacturers out there, but there’s only one Clayton Glass. Founded in 1956, we are one of the UK’s largest, oldest and most innovative independent glass producers. We have a responsibility to lead the industry forward and be a shining example of how business should be done – with honesty, pride and respect.

You can feel the difference

We do things a little differently around here – from our unmatched dedication to quality and customer service, to making our 600+ staff feel valued and recognised. The Clayton Difference is visible across every department, in every order and in all our ground-breaking innovations.

The UK’s favourite IGU manufacturer

Operating across six separate sites, we have earned our reputation as the UK’s favourite business-to-business IGU supplier. A multiple winner of IGU Manufacturer of the Year, a founding member of the National Glass Group (NGG) and regularly featured among the London Stock Exchange’s companies to inspire Britain, we forge lasting relationships built on mutual trust, giving every customer the care, attention and respect they deserve.

The Clayton Chronicles

1956

Clayton Glass first opened it’s doors in 1956 to assemble high-quality applications.

1970s

Over the next few decades, we gained a reputation for delivering exceptional products with a friendly and knowledgeable customer service.

1990

We moved our HQ from a smaller site in Tanfield (15,000 sq ft) to a larger site (50,000 sq ft), more than tripling our manufacturing space.

2000

We built our first toughening plant, and from this point on we had the ability to produce toughened units on a large scale, meaning our capabilities enhanced. We now have 5.

2005

Our roof glass brand SMARTGLASS was brought to market. A first-of-its-kind roof glass solution that strived to solve the dual problem of conservatories that overheat in the summer and become too cold in the winter.

2013

Clayton acquired its North Shields site.

2015

Clayton Glass moved its HQ from Tanfield (50,000 sq ft) to Harelaw (110,000 sq ft) in County Durham, a site more than double the size.

2019

In 2019, Clayton Glass purchased another glass company, making us a multi-site operation with glass factories in Huthwaite, Blackburn, and North Shields. This purchase made Clayton Glass one of the largest IGU manufacturers in the UK.

2022

Clayton Glass acquires two new sites, one in Scotland and one in Canterbury. The acquisitions make us a 6-site operation capable of producing 65k units per week.
