Huthwaite Upgrade Completed to plan

We’re excited to announce the completion of a new tempering plant at our Huthwaite site, a six-figure investment to significantly improve quality, reliability and throughput.

Despite the commercial risks of disrupting production during a busy period, the end product is now ultimately a huge benefit for our customers. There is never really a good time to replace a machine of this scale, but we knew the cooperation and mutual support between our six manufacturing sites would see us through the installation.

We were right.

Our Operations Team pulled together, and 3 of our five other sites took the strain, manufacturing the toughened glass product that Huthwaite couldn’t make, whilst transferring annealed product back the other way to keep the site running. A team of managers and operators spent six weeks at our Scottish site producing single-tempered glass, which was shipped from Glasgow to Huthwaite daily.

With a unique ability in mulit-site planning, our operation demonstrated clearly the ability to (almost!) seamlessly utilise manufacturing capacity spread right across England and Scotland, to put to the test and ultimately prove the resilience of the Clayton Brand. Our teamwork and can-do attitude made this project a textbook example of The Clayton Difference, and the increased 30-35% productivity and optical quality puts us in a great position to serve our customers for many years, as the site grows to meet its full potential.
